CHAOS Nips Smiters For Girls’ Soccer Title

The CHAOS edged the Smiters 1-0 to win the Newtown Soccer Club’s U14 girls’ in-house fall soccer championship this past week.

The lone goal came on a high-arcing shot from Sierra Mather. A centering pass from deep in the right corner from Morgan Goldstein set up the goal, which came just past the midpoint of the first half. The CHAOS then withstood relentless second-half pressure from the Smiters, including an all-out ten-player attack on the CHAOS goal during the final five minutes.

Strong midfield play by Emily Toby and Danielle Agugliaro, and stifling defense by Margot Elkins and Ashley Marks helped the CHAOS cause. Great pressure on offense came from Allison Indelicato, and the MVP of the game was Keira Veillette.

The Smiters brought their best game to the final, with great performances delivered across the roster. Eight different players shared goalkeeping duties as Emma Burns, Emma DeFlumeri, Carly Grossano, Geralyn Klein, Amanda Martinez, Sarah MacMullan, Haley Taylor, and Lizzie Wojcik, collaborated to hold the division’s top-scoring offense to one goal. Katerina Ringes was stalwart on defense. After a slow start to the season, the Smiters turned it up during the tournament to battle their way into the final, giving the CHAOS all they could handle down to the final whistle.

The final wrapped up an 11-game fall classic that featured 95 players from six teams battling for the division crown.
