Spikers Host Dig Pink Night

The Newtown High School girls’ volleyball team is hosting Dig Pink, a National breast cancer awareness rally on Friday, October 23 when the Nighthawks take on Oxford (the junior varsity team will play at 5:15 pm and the varsity will play at 6:30 pm).

This October, high school and collegiate teams across the country are promoting breast and health education as well as raising funds to help eradicate breast cancer. The proceeds from all donations and ticket sales will benefit The Side-Out Foundation which will support health care professionals in the battle with the disease.

The community is invited to support the NHS varsity and junior varsity volleyball teams in this battle against cancer. Admission is $5. Dig Pink attendees will watch the girls compete on the court and are asked to contribute to breast health awareness by wearing something pink. The JV and varsity will both be wearing pink jerseys.

Donations to Dig Pink are being accepted online at: https://www.side-out.org/application/teams/team_page/1503.

NHS varsity volleyball player Megan Casey brought the idea of this event to the table after witnessing a similar fundraiser while participating in an event in Baltimore with her Connecticut Juniors travel volleyball team.

The NHS girls’ soccer team also held a fundraiser and wore pink jerseys and played with a pink ball during a game this month.
