Walkabout Clearwater Singers To Perform At WestConn
DANBURY â The Walkabout Clearwater Chorus, a group of volunteer singers and musicians from New Yorkâs Hudson River Valley whose performances over more than two decades have carried on the musical and activist legacy of folk legend Pete Seeger, will perform at Western Connecticut State University at 4 pm on Saturday, October 27, in a concert to benefit scholarship programs at WestConn.
The Walkabout Clearwater group will perform folk songs including traditional works and original songs written or adapted by members of the chorus.
The performance will be in Alumni Hall, which is on the universityâs midtown campus near the corner of Dr James Roach Avenue and Osborne Street (next to Roberts Avenue Elementary School). Admission at the door will be $10 for adults, and free for students and children.
The concert will benefit the School of Arts and Sciences Student International Study Scholarship program at WestConn. The scholarship fund demonstrates the universityâs commitment to provide the opportunity for every WestConn student to study abroad, regardless of family financial circumstances.
The afternoon concert is especially geared for families and students of all ages. The groupâs performances have been described as ranging from âboisterous singalongs with audience participation to carefully crafted, harmonious messages designed to make the listener think twice about the state of the world.â
The chorus is part of Walkabout Clearwater Sloop, Inc., a chartered sloop club that supports the environmental efforts of the Poughkeepsie-based Hudson River sloop Clearwater. Â
