Talk about ending the season on a high note.

The Newtown Nighthawk ‘A’ Winterguard – under the direction of Bob Findley, Helen Woods, Cathy Bauer and Alissa Belcher – won first place in the Scholastic ‘A’ division for the third consecutive year at the Musical Arts Conference championships held at Trumbull High School and was the first Scholastic ‘A’ guard to accomplish this.

The guard competed against nine other guards from area schools and won with a score of 94.00. The guard also took first for the third straight year at the SouthWest Conference held at Bunnell High School in March.

The guard recently returned from a successful trip to compete in the Winterguard International Championships held in Dayton, Ohio. This is the first time a Newtown Winterguard has competed at WGI Championships and the guard made it through the preliminaries and semi-finals, placing 22 out of 119 Scholastic A guards from across the country.

The guard performs to the music from Stealth.

There are five seniors graduating this year – Lauren Imperioli, Laura Douglas, Karen Whippie, Connie Riccardi and Valerie Weymouth.
