August 17 Garden Walk, Room By Room
BETHLEHEM â The Bellamy-Ferriday House & Garden will continue its monthly garden walk series with a âGarden Rooms Walkâ on Sunday, August 17, at 3 pm. Site Administrator Barbara Bradbury Pape will lead the exploration of the different âroomsâ of the Ferriday landscape.
The rooms of a garden are no different than those of a house, each has its own furniture, design, and function. The walk will look at how the Ferridays divided their landscapes into separate areas.
The September garden walk will focus on the historic apple trees.
Cost is $2 per person, payable the day of the program.
The Bellamy-Ferriday House & Garden is a property of The Antiquarian and Landmarks Society (A&L), founded in 1936 to preserve and interpret the heritage of Connecticut. The society presents to the public nine properties, which span four centuries of Connecticut history, situated in Coventry, Hartford, Moodus, New London, Suffield, Wethersfield, and Bethlehem.
Once the home of the Reverend Joseph Bellamy, the first minister of Bethlehem, and Caroline Woolsey Ferriday, a humanitarian of diverse interests, the Bellamy-Ferriday House & Garden also features a formal parterre garden, a historic apple orchard, and several 18th Century outbuildings. The garden boasts a collection of peonies, lilacs and roses, as well as hundreds of perennials and shrubs. Visitors are welcome to guided tours of the property on select days during the week.
Guided tours of the property, at 9 Main Street North (at the corner of Routes 61 and 132), are conducted on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 11 am to 4 pm, May through October. Admission is $5 per adult and $2 per child under the age of 18.
