Visit Ashlar Of Newtown

Betty Naylor, also known as “Betty the Easter Bunny,” introduced her baby bunnies, Adam and Sam, to the excited children who came to visit residents and experience Easter at Ashlar of Newtown this week.

Wearing Easter Bunny ears, Gabrielle Bates, Ethan Beaulieu, Brianna Cappozziello, Sage DeSimone, Haley Dickinson, Thomas Long, Marc Webb, Garret Berk, Zachary Anderson, Katherine Moran, Gregg Trimarchi, and Riley Rising of The Children’s Adventure Center in Sandy Hook introduced themselves while taking turns petting the bunnies and smiling for pictures before going up to the third floor where they were greeted by the residents who had gathered to welcome them and enjoy being part of the Easter egg hunt.

The children got right down to business and before long everyone had baskets filled with brightly colored eggs. After the hunt, the children sang a few of their favorite springtime songs and gave each resident a bookmark they made at school.

The Children’s Adventure Center and Ashlar of Newtown’s Therapeutic Recreation Department have formed a collaboration to provide the children with an opportunity to have awareness of others, to create an attitude of acceptance and caring for others, and to allow the seniors and children the opportunity to appreciate and enjoy each other’s company.

In the future, The Children’s Adventure Center will join Ashlar of Newtown residents and the volunteers in the UConn Master Gardner program in planting seedlings that will be used as gifts for future residents of Ashlar of Newtown and Lockwood Lodge as well as patients on the Short-Term Rehabilitation Unit.
