‘Close-Up’ Art

To Be Exhibited At Highstead Arboretum

REDDING — “Close-Up!,” a comprehensive, one-man exhibition by native Connecticut artist and photographer Dave Pressler, features a personal photographic view of predominantly native botanical subjects, focusing on intense, close-up images. The collection will open on July 9 at Highstead Arboretum and will remain on view until August 31.

Mr Pressler artfully documents a range of subjects from a bee’s eye view of blossoms, to butterflies, exotic leaf structures and dramatic bark textures that celebrates life in detail. “Close-Up!” is a metaphor for the wonder of life, and the inevitability of aging, impermanence and the transitory nature of life.

The public is invited to meet Mr Pressler during an opening reception on Sunday, July 9, from 2 to 5 pm. Mr Pressler will be available to discuss his work at the opening and also by appointment.

Mr Pressler will also offer an Artist’s Walk through Highstead Arboretum on Saturday, July 22, from 10 am until noon. The walk will explore texture and color of mosses, lichens, bark and rocks, and the effect of light on the structure of leaves and blossoms. Mr Pressler will pose the questions, “What makes a person look at something, pause, and then take special notice?”

Highstead Arboretum is at 127 Lonetown Road (Route 107). Visiting hours are 8:30 am to 4 pm Monday through Friday, by appointment. Individuals or groups interested in visiting may make arrangements  by calling 203-938- 8809.
