NHS Assault
About 9:36 am April 3, police responded to Newtown High School at 12 Berkshire Road after receiving a report that one male student had assaulted another male student.
The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported the unidentified youth who had been assaulted to Danbury Hospital for medical treatment of a nose injury, police report.
Police said the incident apparently was the result of an ongoing dispute between the two boys.
Police arrested the student who had allegedly started the fight, lodging charges of third-degree assault and breach of peace. Following arrest processing, police released the youth on a written promise to appear April 18 in Danbury Youthful Offender Court, meaning that he is either age 16 or 17.
State law shields from disclosure the identity of people under age 18 who are charged with crimes.
Moving Violations
At about 6 pm April 5, police said they stopped motorist Gary Ballard, 57, of Danbury on Queen Street to investigate.
Police charged Ballard with driving an unregistered vehicle and with driving while under suspension. After processing the case, police released Ballard on $100 bail for an April 22 appearance at Danbury Superior Court.
Bracelet Found
Police said this week they have received for safekeeping a silver charm bracelet that a walker found in late March near the bridge that crosses Deep Brook at Fairfield Hills. That bridge lies north of the Army National Guardâs military kennel. The owner of the bracelet should contact Sergeant Darlene Froehlich at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 426-5841, to claim the bracelet.
Glen Road
According to a police report, police stopped motorist David Waite, 33, of Southbury near 5 Glen Road in Sandy Hook Center about 11 am April 5, because he was using a handheld mobile telephone while driving a pickup truck.
After investigating, police charged Waite with illegal use of a handheld mobile telephone while driving and with driving with a suspended license.
Police released Waite on $250 bail for an April 23 court appearance.
MV Charges
Police said that late on the morning of April 1, they stopped motorist Timothy Barnes of New Fairfield on Main Street after they had observed him traveling fast on Currituck Road.
After investigating, police charged Barnes with traveling unreasonably fast and with driving with a suspended license.
Police released Barnes from custody on a written promise to appear in court on April 11.
Trespassing Charges
Police report that at about 9 pm on April 5, they located two teenage boys from Brookfield in a motor vehicle on the Fairfield Hills grounds, well after Fairfield Hills had closed to the public for the day.
Consequently, police charged each of the two youths with simple trespassing, issuing infraction tickets to each of them for the violations.
Receiving the tickets were driver Justin Escaravage, 16, and passenger Mark Mancusi, 16, police said. Such tickets are appealable in court.
Three Charges
Police report that at about 3:30 pm April 1, while they were using radar speed measurement equipment, they stopped motorist Debra B. Perry, 52, of 24 Toddy Hill Road to investigate near the intersection of Washington Avenue and Oakview Road. Police said Perry had been driving 48 miles per hour in a 35-mph zone.
Police said they charged Perry with traveling too fast for conditions, driving with a suspended license, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Police released Perry on a written promise to appear April 18 in Danbury Superior Court.
I-84 DUI
State police report that they detected motorist Christopher R. Fox, 24, of Wolcott driving 84 miles per hour in a 65-mph zone on westbound Interstate 84, near Exit 13, about 12:37 am April 6. State police said they then stopped Fox near Exit 11, after which they gave him field sobriety tests.
 State police charged Fox with driving under the influence and with speeding. He was released on $500 bail for an April 14 court appearance.
Reckless Driving
According to state police, they stopped motorist Justine Pessolano, 21, of Naugatuck on Interstate 84 for driving fast at about 9:20 pm April 6. After investigating, state police charged Pessolano with reckless driving and with driving while under suspension. Pessolano was released on $500 bail for an April 16 court appearance.
Highway Crash
State police report that motorist Caitlin Durkin, 20, of 4 Winesap Drive, who was driving a 1996 Honda Accord on westbound Interstate 84, east of Exit 9, about 8:30 am April 5, drifted to the roadâs left shoulder, lost control of the auto, drove back across the westbound lanes and then struck guardrailing along the right road shoulder.
Durkin was not injured, state police said. Durkin received a warning for failure to maintain position in a travel lane, state police said.
Main Street
Police said they stopped motorist Gary Fetzer, 52, of 18 Sugar Street at about 8:51 pm on April 6 near 45 Main Street to investigate an apparent motor vehicle violation.
Police said that after investigating they charged Fetzer with failure to have functioning tail lamps and with driving while under suspension. Police released him on a written promise to appear in court on April 22.
Criminal Mischief
Sometime between March 15 and April 2, someone pulled some slat boards off the exterior of a barn/garage on Washington Avenue, near Washington Avenueâs intersection with Pearl Street, in Sandy Hook, police said. Police are investigating the case of third-degree criminal mischief. Anyone with information on the crime is asked to contact police Officer John McCluskey at 426-5841.
Chrysler Vs Ford
Police report a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Wasserman Way and Berkshire Road in Sandy Hook about 3 pm April 2.
Motorist Kevin Danielson, 42, of Naugatuck, who was driving a 2003 Ford Explorer eastward on Wassermann Way, was attempting to make a right turn onto Berkshire Road when the Ford was struck from behind by motorist Robert Weiner of Southbury, who was driving a 1998 Chrysler Sebring, police said.
There were no injuries. Weiner was verbally warned for following too closely, police said.

Nighttime Crash
A two-vehicle accident occurred near 107 Berkshire Road about 1:51 am April 9.
Police said motorist Suzanne Frasca, 21, of Brewster, N.Y., was driving a 1993 Mercedes-Benz sedan westward, when another auto, which was traveling eastward, crossed the roadâs center line and collided with the Mercedes.
The motorist who caused the accident then left the scene without stopping, police said. Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps members and Sandy Hook firefighters went to the accident scene, where they treated Frasca for neck pain, police said.
Police said they believe that the other vehicle involved in the crash was silver colored 740-series or 750-series BMW with a model year sometime between 1996 and 2001. Anyone with information on the identity of that driver is asked to contact police at 426-5841.
