Mary Elizabeth Oldham

Married 48 Years

Mary Elizabeth Oldham, a resident of Newtown, former longtime Greenwich resident and widow of the late Arthur W. Oldham, died peacefully at the home of her son, surrounded by her family, on Sunday, August 20.

Mary was born May 2, 1923, in Chillicothe, Ohio, a daughter of Wylie A. and Martha (Street) Lucas. She was raised and educated in Chillicothe, and was a graduate of Rio Grande College in Ohio, where she met her husband of 48 years.

The family moved to Greenwich in 1965, where Mary worked as an executive secretary for several large area corporations. In 2004, she moved to Newtown and resided with her son David who also resides in Merida, Mexico, with his wife Margarita and their children. Most recently, Mary moved into the home of her son Steven, in Bethel, where she was lovingly cared for by her daughter-in-law Joan.

In addition to her two sons, Mary is survived by her sister Lucy of Columbus, Ohio; seven grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

There will be no calling hours. Services for the family will be private. The Oldham family would like to extend their thanks to the entire staff of Bethel Visiting Nurse Association, and are requesting that memorial contributions in Mary’s memory be made to the organization at 1 School Street, Bethel CT 06801.
