Newtown Historical Society will host its Annual Children’s Day at the Little Red School House this month. The antique school building, located on the grounds of Middle Gate School,  7 Cold Spring Road, will be open Sunday, September 28, from noon until 2 pm.

The historical society acquired the school house in 1968 and relocated the structure from its original site on Toll Gate Hill (now Route 25) to its present location.

Costumed docents will conduct “class” inside the schoolhouse for children ages 5-10, and recess activities will take place outside. Docents will also teach and organize colonial games, such as Graces, Trundling a Hoop, Sack Races, and Tug of War.

Class will begin promptly at 12:30 with a hornbook craft.

In the event of rain, class will still be held, but outside events will be cancelled.

A $3 materials fee will be payable at the event. Registration is required and can be done by emailing bkwilsonhistory@yahoo.com.
