Free Programs At Kellogg Environmental Center
DERBY â The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (CT DEEP) announces the following upcoming free programs at Kellogg Environmental Center, at 500 Hawthorne Avenue (off Route 34). Area residents are invited to learn about a variety of topics, including wildflowers and Japanese woodblock prints.
Dress for the weather and each activity. Registration is strongly encouraged for each program; call 203-734-2513.
*Friday, July 20, 3 pm: âWildflowers.
Connecticut has a diverse selection of wildflowers. In this 90-minute program attendees will learn about wildflowers grown in the area, and then have a guided walk through the trails of Osbornedale State Park with the opportunity to identify various plants. The program is open to all ages.
*Saturday, July 21, 10:30 am: âConserving Our Resources.â
Energy and water are necessary resources that we use throughout our daily lives. In order to help the environment, it is important to learn how to conserve the resources that we have. Through a 90-minute presentation and interactive game, participants will learn the effects of excess water and energy usage plus effective ways to reduce and conserve resources.
Open to all ages.
*Wednesday, July 25, 2-4 pm: âTree Identification Hike.â
Meet at the Kellogg Center for a walk through the neighboring Osbornedale State Park. See a variety of beautiful trees and other types of plant life and learn facts about the trees in our stateâs forests. This program is intended for children ages 8 and up.
*Sunday, July 29, 2 pm: âSunday at the Osborne Homestead Museum.â
Enjoy a talk on the career of architect Waldo S. Kellogg and his contributions to restructuring and redecorating the 1850 farmhouse, turning it into a vibrant example of Colonial Revival, Federal-style architecture. Learn about the unique architectural features of the museum.
