Volunteers Needed For Invasive Plant Removal June 12
Volunteers Needed For Invasive Plant Removal June 12
Newtown Conservation Commission is seeking volunteers for a working session of invasive removal on Sunday, June 12, at the Pole Bridge Preserve, from 9 am until 12:30 pm. The group will reduce bittersweet, barberry, multiflora rose, and garlic mustard.
Commission members have some gloves, loppers, and other cutting tools, but volunteers should bring their own tools if available. Recommended is protective, light -colored clothing to avoid the thorns on certain plants, and also to help make ticks visible. Insect spray is also appropriate.
Participants or students seeking community service hours will be trained on invasive identification.
A rain date for this event is June 18.
Pole Bridge Preserve on Pole Bridge Road, just before its intersection with Bancroft. Carpooling is recommended as parking is limited.
Contact Adria Henderson at 203-816-7170 for additional information.
Also, garden clubs, high school community service participants, and master gardeners should note: the commission is putting together a group of volunteers willing to participate in ongoing invasive removal projects at several town open space parcels. Each parcel would have a group leader and be responsible for setting up dates and volunteers at the site.
