Helen A. Kavanewsky, 89, of Lockwood Lodge, Newtown, and formerly of Norwalk, died October 1 in Ashlar of Newtown. Mrs Kavanewsky was the former wife of the late Joseph Kavanewsky. She was born in Vintondale, Penn. on October 29, 1916, a daughter of John and Barbara Balko.
Mrs Kavanewsky came to Connecticut in the 1930s and was a resident of Norwalk for more than 60 years where she was a communicant of St Ladislaus Church and a longtime member of the altar guild. She was employed by Clairol in Stamford until her retirement.
In 1998, she moved to Newtown where she was the first resident of Lockwood Lodge and was a communicant of St Rose of Lima Church. Mrs Kavanewsky was loved by all who knew her and will be sorely missed by family and friends, especially those at Lockwood Lodge.
Mrs Kavanewsky is survived by her son, Tom Kavanewsky and his wife, Evelyn, of New Milford; one brother, Andy Balko of Vero Beach, Fla.; four sisters, Mary Caine of Ludlow, Mass., Barbara Perry of Erie, Penn., Julie Toth of Parma, Ohio, and Margaret Antishin of Riverview, Mich.; several grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews including Nadine Strahs, Barbara Poidomani, and Ed and John Caine.
Funeral services were held October 4 at 10 am from the Honan Funeral Home, Newtown, and in St Rose of Lima Church for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be private.
