SCE Concert Will Jazz Up Thanksgiving

Sherman Chamber Ensemble (SCE) will present âThe Best of Sherman Chamber Ensemble Jazzâ over Thanksgiving weekend, highlighting compositions by Bach, Schubert, Piazzolla and others, as well as songs by Gershwin. The concert will feature jazz pianist Ted Rosenthal, drummer Chris Parker, flutist Susan Rotholz, and cellist Eliot Bailen, artistic director and founder of SCE.

Free matinee performances will be offered on Saturday, November 25, at 4 pm, at Sherman Congregational Church, 5 Church Road (off Route 39), Sherman; and Sunday, November 26, at 3 pm, at St Andrewâs Church, 1 North Main Street, Kent (intersection of Routes 7 and 341).

The family matinee is SCEâs annual weekend celebration of Thanksgiving, and is offered to foster a community feeling through music and to hear music the way it was meant to be heard: live!

Not approving a development that has "checked" all the boxes because the NIMBY mob doesn't like it is wrong.

The town historically has strong collaboration with developers, but the primary obstacle arises from community opposition exerting undue influence on the zoning department. This "NIMBY" pressure often leads to project rejections that exceed the department's actual jurisdiction or authority. Consequently, developers face a limited set of options: either engage in expensive legal battles or leverage the Connecticut Affordable Housing Land Use Appeals Procedure (CGS § 8-30g) as a recourse.

You are correct, Bruce. I know how hard these plans are to put together, but I still believe that we can have more definitive and measurable goals. I know there are a number of units coming online, and the community truly needs them. If only we can move the development of affordable housing to more of a partnership between the community and the developers than the adversarial tug-of-war it seems to be now, that would be good progress.
