âFeeling Goodâ Winners Announced

Sharon Massafra, president and owner of Home Instead Senior Care, which provides personal care, meal preparation, respite care, medication reminders, light housekeeping and shopping services and errand service to senior citizens living at home, was joined by her administrative assistant Rose Mannino, Lisa Kelleher from marketing, and Mary Kay cosmetic consultant Caren Corbett at Newtown Senior Center on Thursday, November 16, to announce the winners of the âFeeling Good From The Outside Inâ senior makeover contest.
First place in the womanâs division went to Mary Gantnier, who was nominated by her daughter-in-law as being courageous and deserving of feeling good from the outside in. Ms Gantnier was a double winner on Thursday, having earlier in the afternoon won the drawing for a special cosmetic case from Mary Kay Cosmetics.
Bob Sharpe was awarded first place in the menâs division. Mr Sharpe was nominated by a number of his friends at Newtown Senior Center as a man always willing to help and of good spirits no matter what the circumstances.
Contest entrants were required to write a 500 word or less essay describing why a person should be the winner of an outfit from Kohlâs Department Store selected by a personal fashion consultant, a haircut from Ricciâs Academy, consultation with a Mary Kay Cosmetics make-up expert, and before and after photos. Senior Center director Marilyn Place and Lisa Kelleher of Home Instead Senior Care served as judges for the contest.
The quantity and quality of the submissions made selection of just one man and one woman winner difficult, said Ms Massafra, so three additional runner-ups were chosen as well. Runner-ups received a gift certificate for a haircut and a consultation from a Mary Kay Cosmetics expert.
Runner-ups of the âFeeling Good From The Outside Inâ contest were Mary Allare, Patricia Hansen and Dorothy Bartlett.
A convenient time for the trip to Kohlâs Department Store and Ricciâs Academy will be arranged with each of the winners, said Ms Kelleher. Mr Sharpe and Ms Gantnier will have the opportunity to show off their new looks at an upcoming senior center event in the near future.
