Rangers 9 Brookfield Team Two 8: Shortstop Garrison Buzzanca saved the game for the red-hot Rangers with an unassisted double play with the potential tying and winning runs on base. Down 3-1, the Rangers bounced back. Parker Lintz, who hit two singles, smacked a single up the middle, moved to third on an errant pickoff throw and scored on an RBI groundball by Ryan. Brock Chimileski singled up the middle and Ryan Pisani crushed a long two-run double over the left fielder’s head to give the Rangers a lead they never relinquished. The Rangers added four more runs in the third inning. Max Lopez rapped a single to right, Max Temple slammed a single over third base, and Kyle Wilcox later walked to score Lopez. Jon Hull stole home for another run. Centerfielder Temple relayed a bases-loaded single up the middle to shortstop Wilcox, who got rid of the ball in a split second and threw a bouncer to the plate. Clinging to a one-run lead in the fifth inning, Hull struck out five of seven batters without yielding a hit or a run in the fifth and sixth innings. The Rangers scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the sixth. Stoller walked, moved to second on a hit-and-run groundout by Brandon Cooper, stole third and scored on an RBI groundout by John Hampford who got the save, yielding a run but closing out the game thanks to Buzzanca’s unassisted double play.

Rangers 14, New Milford 4: Brandon Cooper drove in three runs and Ben Stoller and Kyle Wilcox each knocked in two runs to lead the offense. Cooper, Hull and Wilcox each ripped two hits in the first and second innings, when the Rangers jumped out to an 8-0 lead. One of Wilcox’s hits was a double to right field. Max Temple also drilled an RBI double to left center. In the fifth inning, Stoller crushed a ball for another RBI double. Cooper followed with an RBI grounder, and Parker Lintz slashed an RBI single, his second hit of the game. Second baseman Max Lopez ended the game by catching a scorching line drive and throwing to shortstop Stoller for a double play.

Rangers 10, Ridgefield 2: Leading 3-2 after three innings, the Rangers broke open a tight game with three fourth-inning runs and four fifth-inning runs. Kyle Wilcox had a steal of home, one of seven Newtown stolen bases in the game. Eric Pisani hurled two shutout innings in relief, yielding just one hit while walking none and striking out two batters. Ryan Pavlicek got the save, retiring three straight batters on nine pitches. First baseman Stoller made two defensive gems, scooping errant throws from shortstop out of the dirt to retire two batters. 

Rangers 19, Aspetuck All-Stars 12: Ben Stoller knocked in a career-high five runs to lead the Rangers. The win over the All-Stars, comprised of many of the best players on two fall Aspetuck teams, was the Rangers’ sixth straight and the Rangers improved to 11-1. The Rangers first three batters in the lineup, Max Temple, Jon Hull and Kyle Wilcox, reached base and scored in every bat. They combined to reach safely in 12 of 12 at-bats, scoring four runs each. Cleanup hitter Stoller compiled his RBIs with a first-inning double, two singles and an RBI grounder. He also scored two runs and stole two bases, while increasing his team RBI lead to 12. Teammate Ryan Pavlicek also ripped an RBI double and smacked a two-run single during a six-run first inning. Hull, John Hampford and Parker Lintz each knocked in a pair of runs. Center fielder Hampford made a beautiful, one-handed catch to track a ball down in right center for the game’s final out.

Rangers 2, Brookfield 0: Eric Pisani, John Hampford and Jon Hull combined on a two-hit shutout to beat one of the state’s top pitchers, Brookfield ace Scott Martin. Pisani hurled the first three innings, giving up just one walk while retiring nine of 10 batters. Hampford followed by yielding just one single and retiring six of seven batters. Hull closed the game. The Rangers were held to just one hit, a ground single up the middle by Pisani against Martin. Pisani moved to second on a wild pitch, went to third on a passed ball, and scored on a clutch RBI grounder to the right side by Miles LoBuglio. Max Lopez and Max Temple followed with walks. Martin picked Temple off first base, but Temple managed to stay in the rundown long enough for an alert Lopez to scoot home with Newtown’s second run. The Rangers played errorless aseball, paced by nine putouts by first baseman Ben Stoller.
