A Birthday Wish

Dorothy Werner wrote this poem in 1960 to celebrate the 14th anniversary of The Boys Club of Newtown.

Fourteen years ago, in ‘56

Just for lunch and just for kicks

Our old-time pal, a friendly man

Put in effect a darn good plan.

Went right out onto a limb

And asked six friends to join with him.

To lunch at Newtown Inn.

All went well from nuts to soup

And they became a happy group.

Some have gone to Heaven — we hope

Others still with life do cope,

Meet each month with little noise,

God bless the handsome “Benton Boys.”
