Quiet And Humble
Joseph L. Barry, 87, of Waterbury, beloved husband of 63 years to Genevieve (Gladczuk) Barry, died January 19 with his family by his side. Born in Bridgeport, he was the son of John and Emma Allaire Barry.
Survivors in addition to his loving wife, are a sister, Bernice Hubina of Sandy Hook; his devoted daughter Suzanne Cascella and son-in-law, Vincent, of Naugatuck; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sons Stephen and Joseph Barry; brothers and sisters, Oliver, John, and Ruth Barry, Eleanor Mucherino, and Emma Prion.
A resident of Bridgeport for more than 60 years, he moved to Waterbury 20 years ago. Mr Barry was the former proprietor of Barry Service Station, located on Barnum and Berkshire Avenues. He was a retired mechanic for McDermott Chevrolet where he worked for many years. A veteran of World War II, he served as a technician fifth grade in the Army, participated in the Italian Campaign and received the European African Medal, Eastern Theater Medal with one Bronze Star, as well as the Purple Heart. An active veteran, he belonged to the American Legion Post 17 of Naugatuck, the D.A.V., VFW Post 1946 of Naugatuck, and the Veterans Who Care of Naugatuck, of which he had been acknowledged for his dedicated service. Mr Barry was a quiet and humble person who will be sadly missed as a âgentle manâ by all who knew him.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on January 24 in St Michael the Archangel Church, Bridgeport, followed by burial with full military honors in St Michaelâs Cemetery, Stratford.
