Historical Society Invites Discussion On Civil War Battles

BROOKFIELD CENTER — Peter Cronin of Brookfield Museum and Historical Society will be moderating a series of upcoming lectures on the Civil War. The program is a continuation of the society’s ongoing Civil War forum now entering its fourth year.

Presentations are offered on the first Monday of each month beginning 7:30 pm at the historical society’s museum, located at the intersection of Routes 25 and 133.

On February 5, Mr Cronin will deliver a lecture on “The Battle of Stones River in Tennessee,” which was fought in January 1863.

The series will continue on March 5 with Dan Norwood of New Milford discussing “The Battle of Chancersville,” which was fought in Virginia in May 1863.

Guest speakers will cover Day One, Day Two and Day Three of The Battle of Gettysburg on April 2, May 7 and June 4, respectively. Speakers are still being sought for these Gettysburg programs. Anyone interested in asked to leave a message on the historical society’s answering machine, 740-8140.

Future forums will cover the Battle of Vicksburg, on August 6; the Battle of Chickamunga, on October 1; and the Battle Above the Clouds, on November 5. Anyone interested in giving talks on any of these Civil War engagements is also invited to contact the historical society.

There are no meetings planned for July or September.
