The Palette Of Frank Vincent Dumond
The Palette Of Frank Vincent Dumond
At its next program on August 25, The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) will welcome guest artist Edward DeVoe, who will paint in oil and demonstrate the palette of Frank Vincent Dumond.
Dumondâs unique system allows rapid and natural painting on location out of doors. It also enables an artist to have an English (Constable), French (Corot and the Impressionists) or American (Hudson River) look.
Controlling value and color on a bright day in New England is no easy task. Green from the tube can poison an otherwise beautiful outing. Blinded by the light, work can seem too dark once it is taken indoors.
Mr Dumond taught his system to countless students for half a century. It endures to this day.
Mr DeVoeâs use of this palette and his studio practice will be revealed as he demonstrates this technique for SCAN.
Edward Spaulding DeVoeâs work has been exhibited throughout the United States and abroad. His works are in numerous private and public collections in Europe, the Middle East and North America. Corporate collections include the Ritz Carlton, Readerâs Digest and Boerhinger Ingelheim Corporation. He has won Best In Show in many competitions, including the Presidentâs Award from the National Arts Club.
Mr DeVoe taught landscape painting for over a decade in the heart of the Hudson Riverâs greatest scenery, at The United States Military Academy, West Point. He is a graduate of Colgate University where he earned a BA in Fine Arts.
The SCAN program is open to the public, free of charge, and will begin at 1:30 pm. It will be in the lower room of Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street (at the flagpole).
