Are High Steppers

On Monday, January 15, the Girl Scout Council of Southwestern Connecticut played host to 11 Girl Scouts who joined the ranks of “High Stepper Club” by selling at least 500 boxes of Girl Scout Cookies during the late fall 2006 sales period.

Newtown Junior Girl Scouts Kelsea Morshuk (Middle Gate School’s Troop 706) and MaryBeth Semosky (Reed School’s Troop 50) were among the Girl Scouts who were treated to a day of limo rides, manicures and pedicures at Adam Broderick Salon, lunch at Wilton’s Tom E. Toes restaurant, and a gift bag from the Girl Scout Council.

Asked how they achieved their success as young cookie saleswomen, the girls both credit their parents.

“My dad is a state trooper, and he took my form into work with him. But I have to help deliver the cookies,” said MaryBeth, who agreed that she owes her dad a neck massage since he missed out on the Spa Day.

Kelsea visited both her parents’ places of work to personally ask their co-workers to treat themselves to a box or two of Thin Mints, Samoas, Trefoils or the like.

“I think people like it when you ask them in person to buy your cookies,” she said, adding with a self-deprecating giggle, “Who can resist this face?”

Both girls had such a wonderful time being treated to their special day that they plan to try and achieve High Stepper Club status next year. But first Kelsea wants to help her troop sell cookies during their upcoming booth sales. Girl Scout cookies can be purchased every weekend through the end of February at such area locations as Stop & Shop, Dunkin’ Donuts, Lexington Gardens, The Newtown Car Wash, and Dodgingtown Market.

“The money our troop makes from selling cookies is going to be used to plant a butterfly garden with benches at Cullens [Memorial off Taunton Lake Road] that everybody can use,” she explained. “So people should feel good about helping us by buying more!”
