Benefit Pancake Breakfast
Benefit Pancake Breakfast
The Newtown Lions Club will hold a pancake breakfast to benefit local fire companies and the Cyrenius H. Booth Library on Saturday, February 12, from 8 am to 1 pm at the Sandy Hook firehouse on Riverside Road. The snow date is February 13.
Tickets are $5 for persons age 13 and older, $2 for children under 13.
Newtown Stop & Shop is helping to support this event.
For the past few years Lois Barber of Sandy Hook has been spearheading a campaign to equip the Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company with a thermal infra-red cameras that can be used to locate people and animals in rooms filled with smoke and fire. According to John Will, Sandy Hook firefighter, now that fundraising has equipped the Sandy Hook firehouse with one of these cameras, the goal is to provide one for each of the townâs other fire companies. The Lions Club hopes the town will support this cause by attending the pancake breakfast.
In addition to helping the fire companies, the Lions Club also has supported the Booth Library, pledging money to equip the childrenâs activities room. A theatre stage, VCR, videos, and a screen are among the items purchased with money donated by the Lions.
Paul Arneth, pancake breakfast chairman, said he anticipates that the event will be well attended.
âWith all the people in town who support the firehouses and the library, this breakfast has the makings of a solid success,â he said.
