Emergency Preparedness,

Fire Safety Discussed

The town is sponsoring a series of informational sessions for the public on emergency preparedness and fire safety.

On February 21, the town health district, the emergency management unit, and the fire marshal’s office provided such a session at Walnut Tree Village, a 189-unit age-restricted condominium complex on Walnut Tree Hill Road in Sandy Hook.

Walnut Tree Village residents learned how to adequately prepare for a disaster in the community.

Discussion focused on making emergency supply kits, where to take shelter, and formulating communications plans for families and friends.

Also, residents learned about common hazards in the home, fire prevention, and safety in the community.

Providing information to the residents were Health Director Donna Culbert, Emergency Preparedness Coordinator BJ Halstead, and Fire Prevention Officer Robert Nute.

The town will sponsor more similar sessions in the future.

Groups which are interested in having such informational sessions may contact the health district at 270-4291, or the fire marshal’s office at 270-4370.
