For The Good Of Newtown
For The Good Of Newtown
To the Editor:
I was recently heartened to read in last weekâs Bee that First Selectman Rosenthal is considering not running for reelection in this Novemberâs election.
Nevertheless, it is difficult to imagine that Mr Rosenthal has actually received âbipartisan supportâ and âpressureâ from Democrats, Republicans, and unaffiliated voters for him to run for one more term, as he has stated. Perhaps this is just something he imagined, since he has proven over the years that he tends to only listen to what he wants to hear.
For the good of Newtown, Mr Rosenthal should accept the fact that it is time for him to move on and not seek another term. The only better thing he could do for our town is if he chose to step down right now.
The citizens of Newtown must end our first selectmanâs reign of arrogance, indifference, and blatant promotion of his own self-interests if he will not do this on his own. If Mr Rosenthal does not make the right decision and decides to run again, he should be prepared to face off against the true public sentiment against him, not the platitudes he receives from his inner circle.
