8 – Fairfield County 4-H will conduct a dog obedience short course in Bethel on Sunday, July 8, beginning at 3 pm. The program will be held at Fairfield County Extension Center, 67 Stony Hill Road.  Classes include basic obedience, proper interactions with humans and strange dogs, coping with behavior problems, and basic dog care. Also included in the course will be using new obedience skills in real life situations. Any youth age 9-15 is eligible to participate. Enrollment is limited and registration is required. 14 – The Middlebury Bridle Land Association will be holding its annual Fall Hunter Pace on Sunday,  October 14, at Larkin’s Farm, South Street, Middlebury. The ride is open to all riders, and helmets and negative coggins are required. All jumps have go-arounds. The pace is part of the Associated Bridle Trails Fall Pace series, and ribbons will be awarded in four divisions: Hunt, Pleasure, Junior, and Western.
