Town Players Are Planning A Gothic Thriller For Next Offering
The Town Players of Newtown will continue their 72nd season with Ravenscroft, Don Nigroâs intriguing Gothic thriller. The production opens Friday, July 13, at The Little Theatre on Orchard Hill Road.
On a snowy night, Inspector Ruffing is sent to investigate the death of Patrick Roarke, who took a fatal headlong plunge down the main staircase of an isolated English country manor.
Ruffing becomes tangled in the lives of the five alluring and dangerous women who reside within: Marcy, the beautiful Viennese governess with a heavy past; Mrs Ravenscroft, the flirtatious lonely lady of the manor; Gillian, her charming but possibly demented daughter; Mrs French, the formidable and passionate cook; and Dolly, the frantic and terrified maid.
They lead him through a bewildering labyrinth of contradictory versions of Patrickâs demise and that of the late Mr Ravenscroft. There are ghosts on the staircase, skeletons in the closet, and much more than the inspector bargained for. His investigation leads him into his own tortured soul and the nature of truth itself.
Directed by Karina Ramsey and produced by Elspeth Poile, Ravenscroft features Christopher Bird as Inspector Ruffing, Sheri Bresson as Mrs Ravenscroft, Alexandra Napier-Ruzek as Gillian, Mary McFeely as Marcy, Teresa Moran as Mrs French; and Ravenscroft producer Elspeth Poile in her acting début as Dolly.
The play contains mature themes and is not recommended for children.
Performances will be Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm, July 13â28. There will be Sunday matinées on July 15 and 22 at 2 pm, and an additional evening performance on Thursday, July 26. Tickets are $18 for all evening shows, $15 for the matinées.
