The first annual Frank Durante Memorial Golf Tournament, sponsored by the Newtown High School football team, will be held Tuesday, August 14, at Oxford Greens in Oxford. Tee-off will be at 7:30 am. Nighthawks Sports Camps
Wacky Water days, t-shirts, weekly Olympics and awards â there is all that, and more, planned for this summer when the Nighthawks Sports Camps returns to Newtown. NSC offers advanced and challenging instruction and activities involving all sports skills to students in grades one through six. The program will run for two, two-week sessions and will be facilitated by certified physical education instructors, providing a wide range of skill developing games and activities. Session B will run from July 16-20 and 23-27. Lunch will be provided each day. All sessions will be held at Head Oâ Meadow Elementary School. Girls Premier Soccer Tryouts
The CFC Easton Rams girls U13 premier soccer team will hold tryouts on Friday, July 6, from 6 to 7:30 pm and Monday, July 9, from 6 to 7:30 pm. Raindate will be Wednesday, July 11, from 6 to 7:30 pm. All tryouts will be held at the Morehouse Field in Easton, just south of the Samuel Staples Elementary School. This U13 premier soccer team will be coached by Neil Phillips. Brian Tvardzik Memorial Golf Tournament
The first annual Brian Tvardzik Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournament will be held Monday, July 30, at Tashua Knolls Golf Course in Trumbull. Fee is $150 and includes a round of golf, cart, prizes/awards and dinner. Tee-off will be at 11 am, with registration opening at 10 am. The tournament is sponsored by the friends of Brian Tvardzik, who lost his lift on January 2, 2005, at the age of 18. A scholarship in his name will be awarded to a Trumbull High School student, in the 2007-08 school year, who will be pursuing an education degree. Eagle Volleyball Camp
The first annual Trumbull Eagle Volleyball Camp will be held at Trumbull High School from July 30 through August 3. The camp will be directed by coach Nelson Kwok, head coach of both the Trumbull High School girls volleyball program and the Greenwich High School boys volleyball program. The early morning session (8:30 to 10:30 am) is open to boys and girls entering grades 6 through 8. The morning session (10:30 to 12:30 pm) will be for boys and girls entering grades 9 and 10. The afternoon session (1 to 4 pm) is a High Performance camp intended for high school varsity team members (boys and girls) entering grades 11 and 12. All entrants will be grouped by age and ability. Girlsâ Premier Soccer
The Northwest Rovers premier soccer club based in Litchfield, coached by Scott McCarty and Rich Ciaglia, will have tryouts for girls in the U13 through U18 groups at Forman School on Norfolk Road in Litchfield. Dates and times are as follows â Tuesday, July 10, from 5:30 to 6:45 pm for U13s; 7 to 8:30 pm for U14s (U13/U14 girls should bring a copy of their birth certificate to tryouts). Tryouts will continue with U15 on Thursday, July 12, from 6:30 to 8 pm; with U16s on Friday, July 13, from 6:30 to 8 pm; and with U17/U18s on Saturday, July 14, from 10 to 11:30 am. Registration will start 30 minutes before tryouts. Registration forms can be obtained from the Rovers website at www.northwestrovers.com. Building With Books Golf Outing
The 15th Annual Building with Books Golf Outings will take place on Thursday, July 12, at the Centennial Golf Club in Carmel, New York, and on Thursday, July 26, at Sterling Farms Golf Course in Stamford. The first outing on July 12 will feature a 1 pm shotgun start time while the outing on July 26 will feature tee times at 7:45 am and 1:45 pm. Both events features a variety of specialty hole contests, prizes, and lunch/dinner. Building with Books (BwB) engages primarily urban youth in the US through after-school programs and in-classroom presentations. It now has 90 high schools involved with the program nationwide. Students in BwB programs have contributed more than 30,000 hours of local community service, and, over the last five years, 97% of BwB students have gone on to college. BwB also builds schools in remote villages of developing countries on four continents. The non-profit has just completed construction of its 200th school. To date, more than 100,000 children and parents have attended BwB schools around the world.
