An Evening Of Mantric Singing & Spiritual Teachings
An Evening Of Mantric Singing & Spiritual Teachings
DANBURY â YogaSpace of Brookfield and the Connecticut Folklife Project will present âPhoenix Rising: An Evening of Mantric Singing and Universal Spiritual Teachings with Yuan Miaoâ on Saturday, October 6, at 7:30 pm, at Danbury Music Centre, 256 Main Street.
Ms Miao, the creator of the Yoga of Joy and author of Dancing with Dragons on Rooftops, an Amazon.com top-ten best seller in China, is a Tibetan-Chinese spiritual master. She will share her special gifts of mantric singing, mudras (sacred hand gestures) and wisdom teachings (in English). All are welcome.
Raised in mainland China during the Cultural Revolution, she was taught the power of mantras (mystical chants) and mudras by her Tibetan grandmother, a spiritual master whose father was a Tibetan Buddhist Rinpoche. In her life in China, Yuan Miao had two very different lives: a secret spiritual life, and a public life as a successful producer and director of television documentaries on environmental and cultural issues.
When her young daughter died of leukemia, she was plunged into despair, but gradually the mystical teachings of her grandmother helped her realize the unlimited reservoir of joy within her. She says she received a wonderful gift from this process of transformation: the ability to share that infinite joy with others through her voice.
Although her spiritual roots are in Tibetan Buddhism, Yuan Miaoâs approach is not Tibetan Buddhist but rather a universal wisdom that embraces people of all faiths as well as those who are not religious. She offers these gifts to all in the hope of reminding people of the essential value of life, and awakening within them the awareness of their own unlimited inner nature. She will share the teachings learned from her grandmother and other masters, as well as from her lifeâs journey.
Yuan Miao will be available to meet briefly with individuals after the conclusion of the evening program. She will also autograph copies of her book, CDs and DVD on the Yoga of Joy which will be available for sale before and after the program.
Suggested donation at the door is $20 for adults, $15 for seniors and students, although organizers say no one will be turned away for lack of funds.
