The Best Intentions

To the Editor:

I would like to add a comment about the ethics investigation being done on Joe Borst. I served on the Legislative Council here in Newtown while I was an employee of the Town of Newtown. I never disqualified myself from any discussion or voting on the town budget.

I had asked the first selectman if being on the council while working for the town was a conflict of interest, and I was told it was not. I recall mentioning that I would resign if this presented a problem.

 During the voting on the town budget I asked each council member if they had a problem with me voting and they all said no.

I’ve known Joe Borst for a long time and I’m sure he had the best intentions when asking for the additional Board of Education funds.
