Emergency Preparedness Training For Seniors
Emergency Preparedness Training For Seniors
An Emergency Preparedness for Seniors workshop will be held at Lockwood Lodge at Ashlar of Newtown, 139 Toddy Hill Road, on Thursday, September 23, from 10 am to noon, to help prepare seniors for natural and created disasters.
In the wake of the September 11, 2001, attacks and a string of natural disasters that have occurred over the last decade, people across the United States have realized the need to prepare for emergencies. Older Americans are among the most vulnerable members of society in the event of a natural or created disaster.
In an effort to educate area seniors on survival strategies, Lockwood Lodge at Ashlar of Newtown is hosting a special Emergency Preparedness for Seniors workshop. The event is free of charge and full of useful information on preparing an emergency plan and survival kit while learning what to do during disaster situations
September is National Emergency Preparedness month in America. The Department of Homeland Security, American Red Cross, American Preparedness Campaign, National Association of Broadcasters, US Department of Education, and many other Civic organizations are working together to bring emergency awareness to all Americans.
All area seniors are invited to learn how to prepare for emergencies, set up neighborhood programs, or volunteer.
Sponsored by RSVP of Western Connecticut, presenters for this special workshop include Barry Rickert, fire marshal for the City of Danbury; âRockyâ Tomlinson, emergency and community services director of the American Red Cross of Western Connecticut, and Andy McGuire, the emergency services coordinator of Danbury Hospital.
Emergency preparedness information will be provided to all attendees. Call Laura Vhay at 364-3127 for more information or to reserve a seats.
