Portraiture At Meeting House

Alain Picard will be the guest artist at the next meeting of The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN). He will be painting a portrait in pastel.

The program will be on Wednesday, November 29, at 1:30 pm, at Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street. Admission is free.

Mr Picard’s portraits have been featured in such publications as The Artist’s Magazine and The Pastel Journal. He has earned top awards throughout the Northeast in esteemed exhibitions including The Pastel Society of America, Hudson Valley Art Association, Connecticut Society of Portrait Artists, and Connecticut Pastel Society.

In 2004 Artist’s Magazine highlighted Mr Picard as one of 20 contemporary artists “on the rise.”

Mr Picard studied at Art Student’s League in New York City, and makes his home in Southbury. He cites Sargent and Degas among his artistic influences. A love of light and beauty are immediately apparent in his pastel and oil paintings.

“As a portrait artist I strive to capture that moment of honest expression and gesture revealed by the subject,” says Mr Picard in express his interest in portraiture.
