SWC Tournament Gets Underway Today

Update: The NHS Softball game has been moved from Treadwell Park to the high school. Game time is at 5 pm.

The South-West Conference tournament gets started with lacrosse and softball action today, May 22.

Newtown High School's girls' lacrosse team will host Stratford at 4:30 pm, and the boys' lacrosse team will entertain Brookfield at 7 pm. These quarterfinal-round contests - both of which feature the No. 2 seed hosting the No. 7 seed - will take place at Blue andamp; Gold Stadium.

In more second seed versus seventh seed action, the NHS softball team is scheduled to play the winner of New Fairfield and New Milford at Treadwell Park, beginning at 5:30 pm.

New Fairfield and New Milford are playing a 1 pm makeup game, in New Milford.

On Wednesday, May 23, the top-seeded NHS baseball team will host a 2 pm quarterfinal-round game against a team to be determined. With a win, the Nighthawk sluggers will play a semifinal game that same night, at either Pender's Field in Stratford or at Bethel High, beginning at 7 pm.

With quarterfinal wins, the softball, and girls' and boys' lacrosse teams will all play in semifinals on Wednesday.

Softball would play at Stratford's DeLuca Field, starting at 5 pm.

The girls' lacrosse team would host a game at 4:30 pm, followed by the boys at 7 pm.

Track and field championships are set to take place at Bunnell High in Stratford on Wednesday, at 4 pm.

Championships for softball and baseball will take place Thursday, May 24; softball at DeLuca, and baseball at either Pender's or Bethel - first pitch for both is at 7 pm.

Lacrosse and boys' volleyball championships will be held on Friday, May 25.

Top-seeded Newtown will host No. 2 Joel Barlow of Redding for the volleyball championship, at 6 pm.

The lacrosse finals are at New Milford High; the girls at 4:30 pm and the boys at 7 pm.

Individual tennis tourneys for girls and boys were postponed because of expected rain, and rescheduled for Wednesday and Thursday, the girls at Barlow and boys at Wolfe Park in Monroe, beginning at 3 pm both days.
