Sing-Along And Trivia At The Senior Center
Sing-Along And Trivia At The Senior Center
Don Salvatore of Danbury returned to Newtown Senior Center for the second time this year with his varied repertoire of songs and banjo music.
Mr Salvatore, a former assistant manager in the photographic department at Ethan Allen and an employee of Candlewood East Marina, traded in his corporate hat for the life of a troubadour last March. He takes his venue of music from the late 1800s, early 1900s, American songs and Broadway tunes to various assisted living homes and senior centers in the Danbury area.
After Mr Salvatore elicited a promise from the group to âsing really wellâ on Wednesday, September 21, he handed out lyrics and nearly three dozen seniors and guests from Abilities Beyond Disabilities belted out tune after tune of popular sing-alongs like âCabaret,â âMame,â âMoonlight Bayâ and âOh, Susanna!â
Just to break things up, the smooth-voiced singer sprinkled musical and random trivia throughout his show.
âIf youâre going to trap a mouse in Cleveland, Ohio,â Mr Salvatore shared with the seniors, âyou need to go to City Hall and get a hunting license.â
Another bit of non-musical minutiae he tossed out, which drew peals of laughter, was this: âDueling is legal in Paraguay, as long as both people in the duel are blood donors.â
And did you know that the blue whaleâs tongue weighs as much as an elephant, and that its heart is the size of a Volkswagen Beetle?
Now you do, and so do all of Don Salvatoreâs well-entertained audience members at the Senior Center.
