Thefts From Vehicles

Sometime between 2 and 5:45 pm on November 4, someone entered two vehicles that were parked along the southern side of the Super Stop & Shop supermarket at Sand Hill Plaza at 228 South Main Street (Route 25) and stole one black Apple-brand iPod Nano media player device from each of the two vehicles, police said.

Police ask anyone with knowledge of the thefts to contact Officer Richard Monckton at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 203-426-5841.

Church Hill Crash

Police report a two-vehicle accident on Church Hill Road about 2 pm November 3.

Eastbound motorist Jean Passero, 67, of 2 Mt Pleasant Road, who was driving a 2002 Mercury sedan, stopped and was preparing to make a left turn into the driveway for the Citgo gas station at 47 Church Hill Road, when the Mercury was hit from behind by eastbound motorist Christopher Gregory, 18, of 281 Berkshire Road, who was driving a 2000 Saturn station wagon, according to police.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Gregory an infraction for following too closely.

Boulevard Collision

About 4 pm on November 4, motorist Lorraine VanVeen, 50, of 8 Scenic View Drive was driving a 2008 Subaru station wagon southward near 53 The Boulevard, as motorist Evan Barreto, 18, of 12 Hundred Acres Road was driving a 2003 Ford pickup truck northward there, police said.

Both motorists were attempting to negotiate the same very sharp curve in the road while approaching that curve from opposite directions, police said. The Ford lost traction and collided with the Subaru, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Barreto for a moving violation.

Jeep Vs Deer

About 10:35 pm on October 31, motorist Bruce Schneider, 59, of Mount Vernon, N.Y., was driving a 2004 Jeep SUV southward on South Main Street, near Bryan Lane, when a deer ran out onto the road, resulting in a collision, police report. Schneider was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Two Vehicles

Police said they responded to the area of 201 South Main Street to investigate a two-vehicle accident at about 9:30 am on October 27.

The collision involved motorist Victor Iraola, 33, of Fairfield, who was driving a 1993 Saab hatchback, and motorist Alexis Vicens, 30, of Bridgeport, who was driving a 2001 Honda sedan, according to police.

There were no injuries. Iraola received a written warning for following too closely, police said.

South Main Street

Police report that at about 10 am on October 27, motorist Bruce Fogelstrom, 54, of 7 Brookwood Drive, who was driving a 2008 Ford station wagon southward on South Main Street, was preparing to make a left turn into the driveway at 153 South Main Street, when southbound motorist Kathleen Toussaint, 68, of Wilkes-Barre, Penn., who was driving a 2000 Mercury sedan, struck the rear end of the Ford.

There were no injuries. Toussaint received a written warning for following too closely, police said.

Wasserman Way

Motorist Jennifer Oliveras, 32, of Stratford was driving a 2005 Chevrolet sedan westward near 21 Wasserman Way on November 4, as motorist Paul Ammann, 41, of New Fairfield was driving a 1999 Nissan sedan eastward there, according to police.

The Chevrolet went out of control while negotiating a curve in the road and then slid into the opposite travel lane, colliding with the Nissan, police said.

Ambulance volunteers transported Oliveras to Danbury Hospital to be checked for injuries, police said.

Police said they issued Oliveras a misdemeanor summons on charges of driving under suspension, traveling too fast for conditions, and failure to drive to the right. Police released her on a written promise to appear in court on November 17.

Hanover Burglary

Sometime between 2:30 and 9 pm on November 2, someone burglarized a home on Hanover Road, near that street’s intersection with Echo Valley Road, police report.

The burglar entered the building via a rear kitchen door. Some jewelry was stolen.

Anyone aware of suspicious activity in that area during that time period is asked to contact either patrol Officer William Chapman or Detective Daniel McAnaspie at the police station.

DUI Arrest

Police report that at about 4:45 pm on November 3, they stopped motorist Gary Field, 59, of 15 Bungalow Terrace on Church Hill Road, near Main Street, to investigate a motor vehicle violation.

After investigating, police charged Field with driving under the influence and with failure to maintain the proper lane.

After processing, police released Field on $100 bail for a November 17 court appearance.

Lexus Collision

Motorist Leslie Trudell, 48, of 9 Arthur’s Court was driving a 2003 Lexus SUV on West Street about 3 pm November 2, when the vehicle collided with a deer that had run out onto the street, police report. Trudell was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Hazardous Intersection

About 4:30 pm on October 29, motorist Robert Jeffrey, 25, of 6 Capitol Drive was driving a 2008 Mazda sedan southward on South Main Street and approaching its intersection with Country Club Road, police said.

At that time, motorist Brian Abbott, 54, of 3 Bonnie Brae Drive was driving a 1990 Acura sedan northward on South Main Street and attempting to turn left onto Country Club Road, police report.

The two vehicles collided. There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Abbott for a moving violation.

Three Vehicles

A three-vehicle chain-reaction accident occurred about 12:10 pm on November 6 near 133 South Main Street.

Southbound motorist Ryan Korth, 17, of 2 North Branch Road, who was driving a 2008 Toyota sedan, stopped for traffic conditions, police said.

Southbound motorist Krista Stringer, 38, of 29 Rock Ridge Road, who was driving a 2007 Volvo station wagon, they stopped behind the Toyota, police said.

Southbound motorist Tibor Bedo, 62, of Monroe, who was driving a 1992 Nissan pickup truck, then struck the rear end of the Volvo, pushing the Volvo into the rear end of the Toyota, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Bedo an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart. Police said they gave Korth written warnings on charges of failure to carry a driver’s license, failure to carry a valid automotive insurance identification card, and driving an unregistered vehicle.

Sedan Hits Tree

Police report that motorist Ernestine Dillon, 81, of 110 Haley Lane, who was driving a 2007 Chrysler sedan about 10 am November 2, exited the driveway at 1 Riverside Road and entered the street, but then drove off the road and struck a tree.

Dillon was not injured. Police issued Dillon a written warning for failure to drive to the right. (A photo of this accident appeared in the November 5 edition of The Newtown Bee).

I-84 Accident

State police report a two-vehicle accident on westbound Interstate 84, about 500 feet east of the Exit 9 off-ramp, on November 7.

During heavy stop-and-go traffic in that area, motorist Pamela Scavera, 57, of Schroon Lake, N.Y., who was driving a 2005 Subaru Legacy, stopped and was struck from behind by motorist Sidclei Freitas, 36, of Fall River, Mass., who was driving a 2008 Ford Fusion, state police said.

There were no injuries. Freitas received an infraction for following too closely, state police report.

Subaru Off Road

Motorist Jintana Philavanh, 45, no address given, was driving a 2006 Subaru Outback westward on Interstate 84 in the right lane, just east of Exit 9, on November 4, when the vehicle went off the right side of the road and struck some guardcabling, state police said.

Philavanh was not injured. No enforcement information was available.

Probation Warrant

After learning that police held a warrant for her arrest, Heidi Gorman, 49, of 18 Old Green Road went to the police station on the evening of November 8, and was charged with violation of probation, police report.

Police said the charge originated with a February 13, 2009, motor vehicle accident in which the vehicle that Gorman was driving struck a utility pole along High Bridge Road, near the Monroe town line. That accident resulted in charges against Gorman including driving under the influence, police said.

Following processing on November 8, police released Gorman on a written promise to appear in court on November 17.
