NEW YORK CITY — The Earl McGrath Gallery New York has moved to 200 West 57th Street in the building known as the Rodin Studios Building. The Earl McGrath Gallery New York was originally opened at 20 West 57th Street in 1995.

The Earl McGrath Gallery New York opened its new location with new paintings by Joe Andoe. This is Andoe’s fifth solo show with the gallery, and is titled “Jubilee City.”

The artist says that “‘Jubilee City’ was a discount store in east Tulsa, next to Jubilee Liquors and across from the Guitar Shack and between Moscowitz Furniture and the Admiral Twin drive-in. The lettering was colorful, festive and jubilant, but it was not so much ‘discount’ as it was cheap. And ever since I looked for what grandiosity was covering up, and that’s usually something that is not very grand at all.”

Andoe has been exhibiting worldwide for more than 20 years and his work can be found in numerous public and private collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, and the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City, and the San Diego Museum of Contemporary Art.

This show will coincide with the paperback release of Jubilee City: A Memoir at Full Speed by Joe Andoe, published by William Morrow, for July of 2008.
