Joseph L. Scalora, 81, of Newtown, husband of Victoria (Milkey) Scalora, died February 24 at Harborside-Glen Hill, Danbury. Mr Scalora was born November 11, 1926, in Winsted, the only child of Salvatore and Carmela (Garafalo) Scalora.
He attended schools in Winsted and was a World War II Army veteran, having served in the Pacific Theater and was stationed in Japan. A resident of Danbury for more than 30 years, moving to Newtown in 1995, he retired from Elinco of Norwalk.
Mr Scalora was a member of St Annâs Melkite Greek Catholic Church, an usher for more than 30 years, and a member of its Menâs Club.
He will be sadly missed by his wife of 52 years; his son, Victor Scalora and daughter-in-law, Terry, of Newtown; his daughter, Helena and son-in-law, Andrew Vericker, of Danbury; and by his three grandchildren, Alyssa Scalora, Evan Vericker, and Nicole Scalora, who will greatly miss their âGiddo.â He is also survived by his first cousin, Joseph Scalora of Glastonbury; and by several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the Visiting Nurse Association of Danbury for the care they gave him, and Dr Alka Popli and the staff and nurses of 9 West at the Danbury Hospital who were so caring towards him and all of us.
The Rite of Burial took place February 28 in St Annâs Melkite Greek Catholic Church, Danbury, with the Rev Michael K. Skrocki, officiating. Burial followed in Wooster Cemetery, Danbury.
