Special Olympics Seeks Sponsors

Special Olympics of Connecticut is seeking sponsors for its Regional Games, Connecticut’s largest sports competition of the year. The all day event, on May 17 at Trumbull High School, includes competitions in track and field, aquatics, tennis and gymnastics. Taking part in Regional Games provides the opportunity for participating companies to share in an enjoyable and rewarding experience with more than 700 athletes with intellectual disabilities and their partners without intellectual disabilities. There will be 400 coaches and 600 volunteers on hand to support the athletes while they prepare for the 2008 Summer Games at Southern Connecticut State University, scheduled to take place in June.

The Southwest Region consists of 28 local programs in 33 communities throughout Fairfield and New Haven counties from Greenwich to Madison. The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.

For more information, visit www.soct.org. For sponsorship opportunities, call Regional Director Lisa Vane at 203-380-9990, ext. 601 or e-mail to lisav@soct.org.
