Stroke Prevention, Free BP Screening Set
A free Lunch and Learn Program for the community titled âBrain Attack: Stroke Prevention & Treatmentâ will be held Tuesday, April 15, from noon to 1:30 pm, in the Lodge Room at Lockwood Lodge Assisted Living at Ashlar of Newtown.
Diane Smith, MD, Ashlar of Newtownâs medical director, will discuss stroke prevention guidelines that can help lower the risk for a stroke, how to quickly identify the signs and symptoms of a stroke or a TIA (ministroke), and what treatment options are available for someone who has had a stroke.Â
Dr Smith is board certified in internal medicine and also in hospice and palliative care.
Ashlar of Newtown sponsors the Lunch and Learn series to provide the public with important and timely health and wellness information.
There is no fee for the program, which includes a complimentary lunch served at noon, followed by the presentation at 12:30 pm. Seating is limited, however, so call 364-3127 to make a reservation.
Those preregistering will only receive a call back if the program is approaching its seating limit. A tour of Ashlar of Newtownâs Short-term Rehabilitation Unit will be offered at the conclusion of the program.
Ashlar of Newtown, an affiliate of Masonicare, is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year and is planning a variety of programs and events in honor of the occasion.
In other news, Ashlarâs Nursing Department will sponsor a free blood pressure screening on Tuesday, April 15, from 10 am to noon in the Lockwood Lodge Wellness Center at Ashlar Of Newtown, 139 Toddy Hill Road. The screening will be conducted by a licensed nurse who will have free blood pressure information. Remember, you can have high blood pressure and still feel fine.
