Connecticut Loses Jobs,
Third Straight Month
WETHERSFIELD (AP) â The state Department of Labor says Connecticut lost 3,400 jobs in March, the third straight month of declines.
Total nonfarm employment in Connecticut last month was 1,699,300, down from February, but still 9,400 more than March 2007âs total.
State Labor Economist John Tirinzonie says Connecticut posted its first quarterly job loss since 2003. But Tirinzonie says despite the losses, Connecticutâs year-to-year job growth is still higher than the national average.
The stateâs unemployment rate rose to 5.3 percent in March, up from 5 percent in February. Also last month, Connecticutâs labor force, which includes those working and those looking for work, shrank by 200 people, a level that remains 29,500 greater than March 2007âs level.
