Senior services for Newtown seniors are available at the Multipurpose Building on Riverside Road in Sandy Hook. The Senior Center is under the auspices of the Commission on Aging. The center is run by Senior Services Director Marilyn Place. For more information about programs offered at the Senior Center call 203-270-4310.

You may drop in at the Senior Center weekdays between 9 am and 4 pm. A hot meal is served at noon, for which you must reserve three days in advance.

Newtown has daily door-to-door minibus service Monday through Friday. Buses also run all day from the Senior Center to Sand Hill Plaza. On Fridays, the bus alternates between rides to Danbury Fair Mall and Berkshire Plaza in Danbury (to Walmart Route 6). Cost is 65¢ each way for the Sand Hill Plaza trip, 75¢ each way for out of town. Call 203-748-2511 TWO DAYS IN ADVANCE to book a ride and get the out-of-town Friday schedule.

*On Tuesday, June 22, at 1 pm, the movie will be Crazy Heart with Jeff Bridges. Popcorn will be served.

 

Day Trips

*NEWPORT FLOWER SHOW on Saturday, June 26, at Rosecliff Mansion has an African theme. Tour the mansion and the grounds to see the magnificent floral arrangements and beautiful displays. Bring your lunch or grab some in the Wharf area. Depart at 7:30 am; cost is $58.

*Sugar, The Some Like It Hot Musical at Westchester Broadway Theatre on Thursday, July 1, will include lunch. Depart at 9:30 am; $88.

*The BOSTON POPS at Tanglewood on Sunday, July 18, at Tanglewood in Lenox, Mass. A luncheon buffet at the Morgan House will be served followed by the Boston Pops with special guest Arlo Guthrie. Depart at 8 am; cost is $118.

*ALL YOU CAN EAT Lobster buffet at Delaney House, Holyoke, Mass., on Thursday, July 22, along with a comedy and impressions show by Frank Cirell. Cost is $91. Come check out the great menu.

*Ace in the Hole Productions presents Honky Tonk Angels, with songs by Patsy Cline, Elvis, and more. Music, laughter, dancing, lunch, and a good time is on tap. Depart at 8:30 am on Thursday, August 5, for The Royal Manor in Garfield, N.J. The cost is $83.

*Depart at 10:30 am on Thursday, August 12, to listen to BOBBY VINTON at the Aqua Turf. Lunch at Aqua Turf will be a family-style menu. Cost is $91.

*Jump aboard the Millennium, a 400-passenger catamaran, for a narrated cruise of ten lighthouses along with a Newport, R.I., Harbor tour Monday, August 16, departing at 7 am. Cost is $90.

*Depart 8 am on Wednesday, September 8, stop for coffee at The Great White Way and then off to the Bossa Nova for lunch. After lunch enjoy the music of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons in Jersey Boys on Broadway, with orchestra seating. Early registration is required. Cost is $190.

Menu For Week Of

June 14–18

Monday: Hot open turkey sandwich on white bread with gravy and cranberry sauce, mashed squash, chopped spinach, mandarin oranges.

Tuesday: Stuffed tilapia, brown rice, broccoli, dinner roll, seasonal fresh fruit.

Wednesday: Fresh ham with gravy, applesauce garnish, sweet potato pone, mixed vegetables, seedless rye bread, seasonal pie.

Thursday: Chicken orzo soup with crackers, spinach and mushroom quiche, fresh zucchini, wheat roll, pear slices.

And for planning ahead —

Monday, June 21: Hot dogs with rolls, chili, hot spicy mustard, coleslaw, ice cream.

Tuesday, June 22: Tomato basil soup with crackers, turkey salad on croissant, three-bean salad on a bed of lettuce, fruit cocktail.
