Found Items At The Police Department

Police Sergeant Darlene Froehlich, who supervises the safekeeping of found items for the police department, is seeking to return a variety of those items to their owners.

The found items have both sentimental and monetary value.

Among the more intriguing of those items is a collection of antique photographs enclosed in a Rolodex-style holder that was found by a passerby last October 13 on Route 25 at the Newtown/Brookfield town line. The photos bear the labeling “Edgewood Park, New Rochelle, NY,” and the surname “Alves,” according to the sergeant.

Also being held for safekeeping is a tear-drop-shaped diamond gemstone that was found April 2 at the Citgo gas station at 151 South Main Street (Route 25).

On April 3, a silver charm bracelet, which contains charms with the terms “Hope” and “Truth” inscribed on them, was found by a passerby on a walking trail at Fairfield Hills, in the vicinity of Reed Intermediate School and the US Army National Guard’s military dog kennel.

Sgt Froehlich said that on April 26, a passerby found a gold ring with a diamond affixed to the ring at the baseball field at Newtown High School, 12 Berkshire Road (Route 34). A partial inscription bears the words, “I will love you always…..”

From the world of consumer electronics, the police are holding for safekeeping an Apple-brand iPod digital music player, which was found in front of Newtown High School on May 7. The device bears the partial inscription “Mark’s iPod…”

Also, on May 18, at Dickinson Park on Elm Drive, a passerby found a set of keys with an attached engraved religious medallion. A partial inscription on that medallion reads: “Korina…”

At Dickinson Park on June 1, a person found a silver bracelet, which police are holding for safekeeping.

The owners may claim the found items from Sgt Froehlich at the police station at 3 Main Street (Route 25). The telephone number is 426-5841. Sgt Froehlich’s e-mail is darlene.froehlich@newtown-ct.gov.
