I-84 Rear-Ender

State police said that motorist Rocco Becce, 63, of Thomaston was driving an auto in stop-and-go traffic on eastbound Interstate 84, near the Exit 11 off-ramp, at about 4 pm on June 21, when a 1971 Kenworth tractor-trailer truck driven by Leroy Bowers, 66, of Fairfield, Penn., struck the rear end of Becce’s auto.

There were no injuries. State police said they issued Bowers an infraction for failure to maintain a safe distance apart.

Watch Found

Police report that a Casio-brand black plastic G-Shock model wristwatch was found lying on the ground near the Newtown High School track at about 7 pm on June 24. The owner may claim the item by contacting police Officer John McCluskey at the police station, 3 Main Street, telephone 203-426-5841.

Mailbox

A black residential mailbox was found lying along the side of the street near 9 Jeremiah Road on June 26, according to police. To claim the mailbox, the owner should contact police.

Cellphone

Police report that on June 26, they received for safekeeping a blue Nokia-brand cellphone and a black leather cellphone carrying case that were found in the parking lot near the Big Y supermarket at 6 Queen Street. The back surface of the cellphone bears a name and a telephone number. The owner may claim the item by contacting Officer Matthew Pirhala at the police station.

Swamp/South Main

Police report that a two-vehicle accident occurred at the intersection of South Main Street and Swamp Road about 6:44 pm on June 19.

Police said motorist Danielle Maslar, 38, of Monroe was driving a 2006 Honda Odyssey minivan northward on South Main Street.

At that time, motorist Nicholas Meriano, 49, of 70 Toddy Hill Road was driving a 1988 Chevrolet pickup truck westward on Swamp Road, police said. The Chevrolet then stopped at stop sign on Swamp Road at its intersection with South Main Street, according to police.

The Chevrolet then attempted to make left turn onto southbound South Main Street, but collided with the Honda, police said.

There were no injuries. Meriano received a written warning for failure to grant the right of way, police aid.

Minivan Vs Deer

Motorist Domenico Datillo, 50, of Bethel was driving a 2011 Chrysler Town & Country minivan eastward near 147 Mt Pleasant Road at about 3:50 pm on June 26, when a deer attempted to run across the roadway, resulting in a collision, police said.

Datillo was transported to Danbury Hospital to be checked, police said. No enforcement was taken.

 

Queen/Glover

An accident involving three vehicles occurred at the intersection of Queen Street and Glover Avenue about 4:21 pm on June 22.

Police said motorist Samantha Rohrbacher, 17, of 8 Nighthawk Lane was driving a 1992 Lexus ES-300 sedan southward on Queen Street.

At that time, motorist Virginia Crawford, 65, of Woodbury, who was driving a 2008 Lexus GX-470 SUV eastward on Glover Avenue, stopped at a stop sign on Glover Avenue at its intersection with Queen Street, police report.

The SUV then attempted to make a left turn onto northbound Queen Street, but collided with the sedan, which was heading southward straight through the intersection, police said.

Following that impact, the sedan collided with a 2002 Volkswagen Jetta that was parked in a driveway at 21 Queen Street, police said.

Rohrbacher was transported to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, police said. Crawford received an infraction for failure to obey a stop sign, according to police.
