Sandy Hook School Kindergarteners Read To Parents And Visitors

Sandy Hook School kindergarten students read to parents and visitors on Wednesday, May 25, but what made the event extra special, visitors and students said, was the fact the students had written the books themselves.

Each student chose his or her own topic to write about for the project. From a ride on the school bus to rabbits, students wrote about many different topics and adventures.

“The books were all interesting,” said Assistant Superintendent of Schools Linda Gejda, who attended the event with Superintendent of Schools Janet Robinson and other visitors.

Both Dr Gejda and Dr Robinson said the students were impressive, and hearing the presentations was entertaining.

“The fact that they are doing public speaking with such comfort is amazing,” said Dr Robinson, while describing the ease at which the students seemed comfortable before their audience.

Three groups of visitors huddled around students as they read their “published” work.

“I think because each child wrote about something that is really important to him or her made them really interested in what they wrote,” said Dr Gejda.
