Treadwell Park Burglarized

Police are investigating a burglary and larceny that occurred sometime overnight June 29-30 at the Treadwell Park swimming pool on Philo Curtis Road in Sandy Hook.
Police said the perpetrators cut a hole through the tall chain-link fence that surrounds the swimming pool complex at the rear of the park. The unknown persons broke into the adjacent poolhouse and stole electronics worth about $500. Police learned of the break-in on the morning of June 30 after park personnel spotted damage.
Police said they are reviewing videotapes created by a surveillance camera, which show images of people, in seeking to determine the identity of the burglars.
The pool, which has been in use for almost 10 years, has been the site of previous nighttime burglary and vandalism incidents. The most serious incident at Treadwell Park during the past several years involved the destruction a playground, which is adjacent to the swimming pool. Vandals set the playground on fire in October 2000, destroying it and causing an estimated $15,000 in damage. No one has ever been arrested in that case.
