Charlie LoBosco still has a season of high school baseball to look forward to, but youâll have to forgive the Newtown High School senior if he looks ahead just a little.
LoBosco, a pitcher/outfielder recently received a scholarship to pitch at Canisius College in Buffalo, N,Y.
âI am very excited about playing baseball at the Division 1 level. This level of competition gives me the ability to challenge myself and realize my dream of playing college baseball,â said LoBosco, a standout pitcher at NHS.
LoBosco will become just the ninth Newtown alumnus to play in college, according to NHS Coach Carl Strait, a testament to both LoBoscoâs ability and the growth of the NHS program which has grabbed more attention as it has improved in recent years.
âIâm happy for him. Iâm happy for his family,â Stait said.
Canisius competes in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, which includes Fairfield University, which could give LoBosco an opportunity to play just a short ride down the road.
On the mound, LoBosco started seven games and tossed 27-plus innings last spring. He had an earned run average of 4.10, struck out 27 batters, and walked 21. At the plate, he collected 24 hits in 56 at bats, batted .429, and had an on base percentage of .466. LoBosco was also a backup quarterback and punter on the Newtown High football team.
