Team AHH … Always Have Hope! will present its third annual Yoga For A Cure fundraising event Friday, September 19, at The Graceful Planet, 7 Berkshire Road.

Team AHH is one team participating in this month’s Light The Night event at Fairfield Hills. The yoga event will begin at 7 pm.

There is a requested donation of $20 per person.

Amie Meleshkewish of Flow To Fit Yoga has again agreed to donate her time to lead the class. The Glaceful Planet has also donated the space for the class again.

All participants will receive a Light The Night goodie bag. There will also be door prizes and a raffle for a gift basket valued at over $150.

Ms Pearson is also a member of the Light The Night Planning Committee. Newtown’s event is the first of the 2014 Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) season in Connecticut, and is scheduled for Saturday, September 27, at NYA Sports & Fitness Center. It will be the sixth annual Light The Night in town, and the fifth to be held at Fairfield Hills.

Light The Night walks serve as a highlight of fundraising by teams who want to help fund treatments to save the lives of those with blood cancers.

The event opens with a few keynote speakers, usually including a current or former patient and/or caregiver.

The celebratory walk is done at twilight, and participants carry color-coded balloons: white for survivors, red for supporters, and gold to remember those who have died from a form of blood cancer. Newtown’s walk is 2.2 miles long. Walkers cover a 1.1-mile course twice, staying within the Fairfield Hills campus the entire time.

As of September 27, over $30,000 had been raised by teams registered for the Newtown walk. Registration is still open for anyone who wishes to form or join a team, or to participate as an individual.
