Stimulus Package Is A Farce
Stimulus Package Is A Farce
To the Editor:
It has been truly bizarre watching the mediaâs two-year courtship with candidate Obama followed by their fawning and fully consummated love affair since the inauguration.
Throughout the entire campaign, we had the liberal left, including the majority of the mainstream media with all its intellectual horsepower, swooning over Obama, constantly reminding us that he would become the first black President, it would be historic, it could be attributed to only racism if he were to lose. The press didnât report the events of the campaign, they helped orchestrate it.
Remember the confirmation hearings of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas? He wasnât treated so nicely. Why is that? Heâs black and highly successful; the media should have been very supportive of him based on his accomplishments. Granted, he was not nominated President, nor would he have been the first black man in the position he sought, but Supreme Court Justice is a prestigious and very powerful position. No, the media didnât support him at all. Why? Because he is conservative. The media was completely color blind during his confirmation, as they were during Obamaâs campaign. Obama didnât gain their support because he is black; they donât care that he is black. They support him because he is liberal, and in particular because at a minimum he will move forward the two holy grails of the 2009 liberal agenda: abortion on demand used largely as birth control, and universal health care. Imagine if ex-congressman J.C. Watts from Oklahoma had run for President. He too is cool, young and black, but would have gotten nowhere as he is conservative.
Now in office, the Messiah of Hope and Change hopes to change America permanently. Heâs asking we support a scam he, Reid and Pelosi call a stimulus package. This is a farce, as evidenced by its contents: $330 million for counseling programs for STDs through the CDC. Thatâs about $1 for every US citizen, hence Newtownâs share is about $27,000; $4.19 billion for Obamaâs buddies at ACORN and other community organizing/Democratic-only voter registration programs, Newtownâs share would be about $345,000. Of the total $900 billion boondoggle, Newtownâs share would be about $77 million (can you say âbrand new high schoolâ?) Bear in mind these entirely unnecessary programs are already amply funded in our 2009 $3.17 trillion budget.
If you believe this stimulus package will resolve our economyâs problems, youâre delusional. If the economy returns, it will do so as a result of innovation and entrepreneurship. If Obama were truly serious about fiscal discipline, he would start by halving the two million strong federal workforce and initiating a tax cut of $1 trillion or so. This unparalleled power grab wherein the Democratic Party hopes to secure a permanent stronghold over the economy will lead to the end of the United States. As columnist Mark Steyn recently noted, Euro-statism, the nanny state where the feds become Santa Claus to everyone, is where great nations go to die.
