Selectmen Approve

Funds For Field Irrigation

The Board of Selectmen Monday night approved a request from Parks & Recreation for $35,000 to pay for irrigation work on a soccer field mainly being built with private funds.

Local developer Chuck Tilson, who received approval to build the 40-lot subdivision known as Tilson Woods, is constructing the public soccer field and walking paths. The approval by the Planning & Zoning Commission included several conditions, including the construction of the soccer field. The long, narrow, 61-acre development site is located within the town’s Aquifer Protection District (APD) and runs along the northern side of Interstate-84, eastward from Washington Avenue to Philo Curtis Road. The rolling tract is adjacent to Treadwell Park.

“He’s going to put the soccer field in, the drainage, and the fencing. We’re asking for money to put the irrigation system in,” noted Parks & Recreation Director Barbara Kasbarian.

The Legislative Council must still approve the funding.
