The 1864 Civil War Atlanta Campaign

BROOKFIELD — On Monday, April 14, at 7:30 pm, Brookfield Museum & Historical Society will sponsor a lecture on the 1864 Atlanta Campaign as part of its continuing forum on the American Civil War.

The talk will be given at the society’s museum, located at the intersection of Routes 25 and 133 in Brookfield Center. Admission is free.

The speaker will be David Montgomery, a retired GE finance executive and Marine Corps Vietnam Veteran. He will outline the circumstances leading up to the campaign as well as the events that occurred throughout the conflict, which took place between May and December 1864. The lecture will cover Union General William T. Sherman’s effort to defeat Confederate General Joseph E. Johnston’s army during the siege and capture of Atlanta and the northern army’s advance through Georgia and the Confederate heartland.

Mr Montgomery, who lives in Newtown with wife Ann and daughter Lynne, has had a lifetime interest in American history and the War Between the States.

Following the lecture, complimentary refreshments will be served. Call 740-8140 for additional information.
