A Grant For The Adventure Center
(with cut)
The Children's Adventure Center has received a $5,000 educational grant from
the Albert W. and Helen C. Meserve Memorial Fund.
The center will use the money to set up two smaller learning centers within
the two current large classrooms at the center on Riverside Road.
The new program is being planned in connection with the 30th anniversary of
the adventure center, which was the first local child care center.
The Meserve grant money will be used to buy children's library equipment and
multi-cultural equipment for the center. Equipment will include a couch,
chairs, cushion, carpet, tables, storage bins, a doll house, dolls, and a
world map puzzle.
"While enhancing the learning program with new ideas and learning directions,
the center also recognizes the necessity to replace equipment which is showing
the wear of hundreds of small hands," center Chairman Mae Schmidle said in a
prepared statement.
The center is supported by town and state funds. The center is seeking to gain
accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young
Children.
